Creating an Immersive Green Focal Point for Melting Pot Social in Asheville
When it comes to restaurant design, a feature wall isn’t just a backdrop—it’s a brand moment. At Melting Pot Social in Asheville, the goal was to create a warm, social, and visually memorable environment that matched the energy of the Melting Pot family of brands. The team needed a signature visual moment that felt modern, playful, and inviting—without adding maintenance burdens for staff in a fast‑paced hospitality setting. To achieve this, Melting Pot Social partnered with UpScapers to create a custom artificial living wall designed to amplify the restaurant’s vibe while staying durable and practical for everyday operations. Why a Green Wall Works So Well for Restaurant Design
Green focal points are trending across hospitality—from social dining spots to upscale lounges—because they:- Create an instant visual anchor
- Enhance brand storytelling
- Encourage guests to take and share photos
- Add texture and warmth without adding clutter
- Provide a biophilic, contemporary feel without living‑plant upkeep
But designing a green focal point that truly elevates a space requires more than installing panels. It requires intention, artistry, and a deep understanding of how guests move through the environment.
The Challenge: Turning a Functional Wall into a Signature Experience
Melting Pot Social wanted a feature wall that wasn’t just decorative—it needed to define the space while supporting daily operations.Key Challenges Included:
1. Lack of a strong focal point
The existing wall surfaces were clean and functional, but visually flat. They didn’t reflect the lively, social atmosphere the brand wanted guests to feel from the moment they entered.2. Heavy traffic and operational demands
Restaurants experience continuous wear from guests, staff, lighting changes, and environmental shifts. The feature had to stand up to it—all day, every day.3. No‑maintenance requirements
Live plants weren’t an option. The team needed the lushness of greenery without irrigation, trimming, or plant replacement. This project called for a solution that was visually bold, brand‑aligned, durable, and low‑maintenance. The Solution: A Custom Artificial Living Wall by UpScapers
UpScapers designed and installed a custom green wall tailored to Melting Pot Social’s aesthetic and operational needs.Design Approach: Creating a Mood, Not Just a Wall
To bring the concept to life, UpScapers collaborated closely with the brand’s design team to define the desired energy: playful, social, warm, and modern. The team focused on:
- Color palette alignment: Ensuring the greenery complemented the interior finishes.
- Layered texture: Using multiple foliage types to avoid a flat, uniform look.
- Strategic placement: Positioning the wall for maximum impact from entry, bar seating, and guest tables.
- Architectural integration: Aligning cleanly with signage, lighting, and wall transitions so the feature felt built‑in—not stuck on.
